  1. Will dry powder be HEPA vacuumed before any wet cleaning?
  2. What detergent or degreaser will be used on capsaicin residue, and is it safe for my finishes?
  3. Will you work from ceilings down, room by room?
  4. How will you clean textured surfaces, grout and gaps in floors?
  5. How will you avoid carrying residue into rooms already finished?

Why method matters

Most irritant residue on hard surfaces can be removed, but the wrong method makes things worse. Dry-wiping or sweeping CS powder spreads it; rinsing capsaicin oil with water alone pushes it into grout and seams. Strong solvents can damage paint and wood. A provider who can explain their method clearly is more likely to do it well.

In older homes, ask how they will handle plaster, original wood and possible lead paint.

Confirming the work is done

A good scope ends with a check. That might be a walk-through with the homeowner, a wipe test on surfaces using a damp white cloth, and time spent in each room with the air system running. Ask the provider to describe what they will do if anyone still feels irritation in a room after they finish, and whether a return visit is included.

Get the final check in writing, with the date, the rooms checked and any items left for follow-up.

Common questions

Will cleaning damage my paint?

Gentle detergent and soft cloths usually do not. Ask about a test area on flat or older paint.

How long does hard-surface cleaning take?

For a few rooms, often a day or two. Larger homes or heavy tear gas residue take longer.

Should I be home during cleaning?

Usually not. Stay elsewhere while work is underway and return for the final walk-through.

What if a surface still stings after cleaning?

Point it out at the final check; the provider should clean it again.

Do I need to remove furniture?

Ask the provider. Many clean around and under furniture; some prefer rooms cleared to reach walls and floors fully.
